Sun Powered Autos Planes Possible Say Goddard
Worcester mass October 3 United Press Professor Robert H Goddard of Clark University says sun powered automobiles and airplanes are possible. He described a solar motor with a polished aluminum or duraluminum mirror and a hemispherical fused quartz end piece. Water is heated into steam by sun heat turning mercury into vapor to drive turbines. He estimates a 100 foot mirror could yield about 650 horsepower and around 50 percent of incident heat usable as power.
