The reservoir stores water diverted from the main channel after passing San Francisquito power plant No 1, located about 45 miles north of Los Angeles between hydro plants Nos 1 and 2.
British war hero Captain Walter Hinchliffe, one eyed, began a westward trans Atlantic attempt from Cranwell at 8 45 a m in a Stinson monoplane loaded with fuel for a 6000 mile flight to North America with a male passenger. A lighthouse report near Mizzenhead placed a plane at sea heading west at 1 30 p m. Earlier reports linked Elsie Mackay to the effort but she denied plans to join the flight.
William Sims worsened as authorities probe oxalic acid as the cause of his illness and the earlier deaths of Richard Bohle, 4, and Arvilla Bohle, 2. Dr. Frank R. Warren said recovery unlikely. Dr. Ralph W. Webster reported oxalic acid traces in Richard Bohle's stomach.

News from Hall California reports the Santa Clara River basin flood has killed at least sixty three people. Bodies were found in Piru, Fillmore, and Santa Paula with more sighted between Hall and Saugus as rising waters receded.
Seventy-five of 175 men in a camp near Piru remain unaccounted as the Santa Clara River floods the basin. Power lines and roads are wiped out, communications down, and Fillmore, Santa Paula, and Ventura report severe damage with many drowned feared.
