Evidence Links $50 000 Loan to Mobile Press Finance

Abner Aldridge testifies before the federal trade commission that $50,000 used to start the Mobile Press came indirectly from Judge Logan Martin, Alabama Power’s general counsel. Two $25,000 checks in 1929, issued by Martin, funded the loan to McGowin with two notes later repaid. Aldridge says the notes were repaid and he knew plans for a new Mobile newspaper during a Mobile visit.
