Indianapolis swelters as a heat wave eases tonight with cooler weather and possible thunderstorms. Temperatures may peak today near 83 before dropping by Friday morning ten to fifteen degrees. No new fatalities reported despite the ongoing heat. no heat prostration or drowning incidents since Tuesday.
Police aided Mrs. Laura Hersh of Goodtown Pa after her pocketbook containing 63 dollars was stolen from her car in front of the Log Cabin Inn. With charity funds, officers sent her and her eight children toward Berriver Utah to live on a sugar beet farm left by her late husband. The eight youngsters slept in the car while help arrived.
Harley Harmon, attorney for Leonard Kip Rhinelander, predicted a favorable ruling on the divorce petition from Alice Jones Rhinelander in Nevada courts. Rhinelander, living under the name Lou Russell, contends mental cruelty and has established residence there for the suit.
Merchandise valued over 200 dollars was recovered today in a house at 222 Eden Place. Four men are under arrest as members of a gang tied to robberies in several small towns near Bowling Green Kentucky. Shilto Ethridge 30 and Walter Zaunch 24 were bound over to the grand jury for the robbery of Mrs Lottie Stewart at 437 West Ohio Street Sunday night. Ben and William Willer of Eden Place will face extradition hearings June 25. Police Chief C C Sullivan of Bowling Green and L H Hildreth owner of a Smiths Grove general store identified the loot.

Heirs may sue to collect 85 000 in accident policies on Will H Latta Indianapolis Street Railway attorney killed at a Monon crossing near Carmel Indiana on June 12. Coroner Dr Frank J Evans could not rule accidental death and said no further details. Policies totaled 85 000 issued June 6 the date of Latta's will with Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company Employer's Liability Assurance Corporation and United States Casualty Company. Hartford previously insured him for 5 000 more than 35 years ago.

James Thomas Heflin Jr., son of Senator Heflin of Alabama, appeared in Washington police court and pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence of narcotics. Bail set at $1,000. he claimed intoxication came from grain alcohol mixed with gin ger oil at a party. He said he had only a veronal tablet and denied narcotics use.

In Jersey City, Miss Margaret Wintermeyer, a 24 year old former telephone operator, regained her speech during a 5000 foot stunt flight performed by Clarence Chamberlin to treat her nervous breakdown. Chamberlin completed dives and spins despite a rainstorm and reported success.
Three Indianapolis youths, William Winter Elbert Marlowe and Gordon Ward, are among twenty three statewide finalists for the Edison scholarship. Preliminary tests at Butler Earlham Ball Teachers Notre Dame Evansville and Indiana universities selected the group from seventy contenders.
Ombra Wise, 20, missing since Monday after leaving home with a stranger, was located and expected to return Friday. Her mother, Mrs. Sarah Wise, reported a letter from Ombra mailed from Liberty Mills near Huntington, and said she believed her daughter had been offered a job.
John Baker 55, farmer, used an ax to kill his 23-year-old son Raymond in a field near Metamora Indiana then wounded himself, leaped into a twenty-foot well and died. Coroner Virgil Davis ruled homicide for the son and death by own action for the father, noting neighbors’ claim of insanity. Survivors include the mother and three children.
