Indiana coal operators raise mine prices by 25 cents for black coal and 60 cents for bituminous due to demand and limited shipping. The move pins black coal at about 2.25 dollars a ton with bituminous varying by quality. Officials expect further price increases before winter as railcar and locomotive shortages constrain transport.
A. K. Jones, appointed physical director of the YMCA, plans to introduce boxing this winter after debates over sparring. A kickoff reception Friday will reveal the class schedule, with gym work starting Monday Sept 29. Four boys divisions meet three times weekly. senior and business classes meet twice or thrice weekly.
About 100 Lowell school pupils in Omaha marched to the police court instead of returning to class. They demanded the arrest of principal Miss Florence Moore, claiming she beat them with straps and rulers. An investigation found trouble began when Moore attempted to chastise two boys and other students came to their aid. Ages ranged from five to many years.
President Roosevelt’s party for Indianapolis includes George Cortelyou and assistants Loeb Barnes Lang Richardson with possible attendance by Shaw Moody or Wilson. Also named are Har rison’s committee liaison, A. J. Leonard Latta Weaver Colman Karger and various press representatives.

National grand master W. A. Gaines called the meeting after state grand master Benjamin B. Alexander canceled it citing contagious disease fears in Richmond. Alexander and state secretary E. Q. Grissom failed to attend and both reportedly would not seek re election.
John Baptist, 29, native of Armenia, completed final naturalization papers in circuit court. He came to the United States in 18% and plans to study theology, then medicine back in his homeland before returning to the United States. He requested friends to shake hands, now that he is a citizen.
Two men entered Moy Kee's restaurant at 506 E Washington St Ha morning. One thief stole a rare porcelain pipe valued over 100 dollars while the other smashed bric a brac. John R Calhoun of Alleghany Pa. was present and later jailed for drunken behavior.
Republican state candidates held a long Thursday morning meeting at state headquarters attended by judiciary members Judge Gillett and Appellate Judges Robey and Comstock. Participants reported conditions carefully reviewed and a strong confidence in victory. Further meetings planned during the campaign.
Capt. C. A. Garrard has been appointed sergeant-at-arms at Tomlinson hall for President Roosevelt s reception by Spanish American War veterans. The executive committee has invited all Civil War organizations and commercial bodies to attend the session at Tomlinson hall and occupy the floor as special guests of the Spanish American War veterans.
Warrick Elmington and Josephine F. Van Buren married Thursday morning in Justice Smock's court by George C. Henderson. Bride is 46, this is her third marriage. groom 31, his first. They will live in Martinsville. Marriage license issued Sept. 6.
The Indiana State Board of Health shows an August death rate up by 1.1 percent from a year earlier with 3158 deaths this August compared to 2932 last year. Typhoid fever spreads across counties except six, diarrhoeal deaths exceed 550—the highest monthly total. Marion County reports 21 typhoid deaths amid rainfall‑driven water contamination. The report notes $10,000,000 spent to fight disease, twice public school funding.
The Sousa band concert moves to Tomlinson Hall at fairgrounds on Thursday night due to rain. General admission is five cents. The program begins at evening time.
The Big Four train carrying William J. Bryan and party from Cincinnati to Greencastle collided with a switch engine at New Jersey Street and Union tracks. Bryan and his party were severely shaken but no serious damage or injuries were reported. Train No. 1 passed Indianapolis at 11 40 a m Thursday.
In Philadelphia on September 18 a grand jury indicted Mrs Aline O Malley wife of Notre Dame professor Joseph O Malley for conspiracy with William Hearin alleged sweetheart to steal jewelry valued at 100 dollars from O Malley. Two other indictments name Hearin as receiver and O Malley as actual thief. One witness Lieut Tomlinson testified.
Barbara Neumerkel sues the street car company for $2000 after a bicycle collision with a car. Her father Julius Neumerkel also sues for $200 claiming medical costs and loss of his daughter's services from the same accident.

The executive committee arranged full provision at hotels for Spanish-American War Veterans visiting the encampment. Sergt. J. O. Carson will issue transportation vouchers to return delegates and visitors from the general headquarters in the senate chamber state house.
Crowds roamed the State House on Thursday morning as visitors wandered corridors and marveled at the capitol. A letter to Senator Fairbanks notes unlikely extension beyond Oct 1 to reach $150,000. A ten-person volunteer committee, including young attorneys and firm staff, aims to raise $20,000. Dr. Dickey has secured part of the guaranty for the final $25,000.
In western Columbia county two men hunt a land sale fraud, then host a peddler. The hostess is killed by a knife. The peddler shoots two robbers. the bodies reveal two women posing as white. The husbands are missing and believed murdered. a posse pursues the suspects.

Streetcars were crowded from 6:30 am. shelter areas packed as damp attendees filled barns tents and hallways. Police handled thefts disputes and a bulldog incident while vendors found brisk trade in weight scales and jewelry bargains amid jubilee festivities and Sousa concert crowds.
