Widow Jenkins sues sheriff and mob in Ripley lynching case
Mrs Lulu C Jenkins of Chicago filed three federal suits seeking 928000 in damages over the lynching of her husband William H Jenkins and others in Versailles Ripley county. She charges Sheriff Busching with negligence and accuses numerous Ripley county citizens of conspiring to arrest and lynch the men. The suits name Busching, many named mob members and Busching's bondsmen with demands for 10000 and 5000 in state relief. W R Crawford Chicago attorney and Merrill Moores assist. Judge John H Baker ruled sheriff liable for negligence in prisoner protection. Summonses issued Wednesday.
