Manila September 3 Gen Grant reports the native mayor of Imus who vanished Wednesday has joined the insurgent army as a general. The man had previously greeted American troops after the Zapote river battle claiming his people sent him to welcome the Americans, but his treachery surfaced before his disappearance.
Manila dispatch says Aug 24 congress convened in Tarlac with Aguinaldo presiding. Madrini named supreme court president and Gonzaga attorney general. Congress denied Aguinaldo declared dictator. Foreigners must register and face stamping. tax on Chinese rumored.

A colored man named John Breeding was sent to the grand jury from police court after Patrolman Dan Caplinger testified that Breeding invaded his room at 1607 East Morris Street, moved the light, and outran a lurching officer. Breeding later was found sleeping in a nearby barn.
Calvin Thompson, member of Dr Lee Cooper's performers group, was charged with burglary in police court after John Reynolds reported a break in at his Sanders street home. Reynolds, who confronted Thompson in the early hours, chased him but did not capture him. Thompson was later located by Reynolds and police were alerted. detectives Asch and Dugan arrested him.
CHICAGO Sept 3 Dr H Baxter Wilson surgeon with the Roughriders in Cuba was Friday sentenced to imprisonment in the county jail for 30 days. He stole a trunk from the Saratoga hotel last June and fled to California. He admitted guilt and blamed morphine for his downfall.

D Sommers Co opens a mammoth new furniture store at 1133 E Washington St Indianapolis with six floors of goods from cheap to fine. Charles Sommers will run the branch, credit offered to responsible shoppers, a four story warehouse added, and a St Louis and Cincinnati network behind the business. A parade of visitors includes Gen H E A Peck and St Louis brokers as windows showcase rooms with oak furniture and iron beds priced from 1.96 to 200 dollars.
A. R. Chetlean the Armenian dynamite maker who attacked the sultan of Turkey a year ago is back in America and plans to visit Indianapolis. Dr. John F. Geis of Indianapolis taught him to manufacture explosives about 18 months ago, and the youth hopes to continue his studies here. He was sent by Armenian leaders who could not obtain explosives or chemicals in their country. Geis showed him how to extract chemicals from natural elements and combine them to make dynamite and nitroglycerin.
R. B. Mundelie of the local post office returned from the National Association of Post Office Clerks meeting in Memphis Tennessee. He reports strong southern hospitality and that most principal offices were represented. Next year's gathering is slated for Atlantic City.
