In Detroit on September 7 a gruesome case unfolds as the severed head of an eight woman, found in a gunny sack in Ecorse creek, is identified and later recovered from the creek under a bridge. The body’s torso remains missing a leg portion, with authorities seeking clues as to the grisly crime.
A telegraph from St Johns N F quotes Commander Robert E Peary asserting he was the first to discover the north pole. Reports from New Haven New York and London detail reactions, emphasize Pearys corroboration by his party and instruments, and note persistent skepticism toward Dr Frederick A Cook's prior claim.

Rudolph Baumert, manager of the Indianapolis Standard Oil branch, faces police court on Sept 14 charged with selling by short measure. Arrest followed Inspector Isidor Wulfson’s affidavit prompted by Dr. W B Craig’s complaint. Wulfson measured gasoline cans found underfilled.
A. E. Knox of the Woodbury Reporter and H. Roger Jones of the New Hartford Tribune announce that their weekly papers in Litchfield county will not publish next week as the entire staff from editor to devil takes a one week vacation.

A stranger assaulted J. P. Cobler at the Magnolia building on Capitol and Kentucky avenues Tuesday morning. He fled through a saloon and a nine foot fence after Cobler confronted him, losing his coat and hat and injuring himself. Mrs Brantlinger, rooming in the third floor, did not know the attacker. she is 3 years old and was arrested on a loitering charge.
The grand jury met for the September term and began reviewing possibly 80 cases this month after Judge Pritchard instructed them. Few criminal court actions occurred as many attorneys attend the State fair and police witnesses work overtime. cases will be reassessed next week with prosecutors Hooton arranging the docket. Grand jurors will attend the fair Thursday.
Charles Robison 84 a shoemaker died suddenly Tuesday morning in his shop at 1445 W Washington St he worked until ill and died within minutes Coroner Blackwell viewed the body and Finn Brothers Undertakers handled arrangements Robison formerly lived in New Albany Ind moved to town nine years ago he was once a physician but later ran the shoemaking shop Dr Thomas Dugan treated him but could not save him His daughter Mrs J W Cross at 27 Addison St was ill and could not be notified promptly
Aid of the judges of the Marion county courts were at the courthouse Tuesday morning but little court business was transacted. Old soldiers were holding reunions in superior court room No. 1 and in the circuit court room. In probate court Judge Roas disposed of some minor cases.
