A bustling veterans gathering in Indianapolis centers on the Grand Army of the Republic pension issue, memorial activities, and a massive parade aftermath. A brutal assault occurred Tuesday after the parade when an ambulance attendant named Steele was struck in the back of the head by an extra policeman, number 206, while trying to move a wire to let an ambulance into St Clair street. Steele, who wore a red cross armband, was taken home after the blow but is expected to recover, with the medical corps demanding punishment for the officer.
The Pace s track records a Wednesday afternoon crowd near 1,000 with lively pool sales. In the first heat of the 2:12 trot Poem drew, Magnolia won, Dr Sparks second, Belle Archer third, time 2:10.5, J. &. distanced. Henry C Carr, boarding at 26 E St Joseph street, attempted to board a south bound Illinois street car between St Joseph and Pratt streets shortly after 2 pm Wednesday. He missed his footing and fell under the wheels. His left foot was badly crushed. Dr Nahlo aided and an ambulance took him to St Vincent's hospital where an amputation was performed. The car was moving at a moderate speed.

Dr J W Babcock reports from Beaufort S C after a disaster at Eustace Place Ladies Island where 52 lives were lost and 44 were buried in one grave The fumes from drying bodies are dire and a large stock of disinfectants was ordered He notes 150 lives lost on St Helena Island and relief committees distributing food with conditions for aid.
News from Victonia reports mobs destroyed native houses in Geukiawana near Mienyang China on July 29. Foreign priests escaped unharmed. Fires and earthquakes devastate Japan with Jyono sami in Tamba burned on August 16 killing 64. Hou Tamari and Hakocaki towns burned, many homeless. An explosion at Yabraina coal mines near Sorachi killed 19. Eleven pilgrims perished at St Frip in a storm.
London dispatch notes violent strike actions by Bernsley miners. About 1200 injured the Hoylan colliery manager, damaged company property, and set fire to coal wagons at Bockingham. At Tumble colliery near Llanelly a riot damaged houses and injured the manager’s wife.
In Rocky Comfort Arkansas a quarrel between W F Crow and J B Burke over a cob pipe led Burke to shoot W F Crow. Clint Crow then fatally wounded Burke, who died shortly after, and the young Crow also died.
Brand charged that the Illinois steel company filed for a circuit court receiver for the Chicago steel company alleging insolvency and mismanagement by directors. The complaint claims fraud and illegal acts in passing and increasing stock for personal gain.
