Sudden Death of Grace Lafferty After Hospital Autopsy Ordered
Grace Lafferty, 39, died at City hospital after a two month illness for an abscess. The coroner ordered an autopsy to determine if death was from cardiac paralysis or the anesthetic chloroform used during a diagnostic examination. She was the wife of William Lafferty of 113 W New York Street. During the planned procedure she collapsed minutes after chloroform was administered and died six minutes later despite revival efforts. The team believes heart failure, not chloroform, caused the death since no anesthetic was given shortly before collapse.
