He sold furniture, accompanied wife and their son to the station, and now faces desolation as she leaves. The tale traces back to Pine Bush childhood friends Carrie Wells, Charles Smith and Miller, with Smith later returning west and the couple’s renewed discussions over years. Miller hopes she will repent before departure and vows to start anew for the sake of their children.
