Indiana Apple Orchard Bears ARO Patches Yearly Quiet

Bha Gerstown Indiana October 22 Special Cor The largest orchard in eastern Indiana is Doolen Daugherty’s Wayne County operation. With 20 acres and 15 varieties, it yields up to 5000 pushers or 2500 bushels of winter apples. Daugherty uses systematic cultivation, mulching, bluegrass, and regular spraying to keep only sound fruit. The Ben Davis and Indiana Favorite lead in value and regular bearing. The trimming favors lower branches to boost growth and the orchard operates with little labor and expense.

TIES THAT BIND Has Married More Couples In Southern Indiana Parsonage

Nashville Indiana October 24 Rev George W Watson one mile south of Nashville is likely the oldest active minister in southern Indiana. His work spans nearly fifty years. Born in West Virginia May 16 180, he moved to Ohio in 1853 then Indiana in 1863. Licensed 1876 by the Methodist church he later joined the Baptist church. He recalls the first American railroad age in 1830 and says his early trips behind Peter Cooper s primitive engine were nothing like modern travel. Watson has likely performed more marriages than any local minister and has only two divorced couples among those he married. At 72 he continues active ministry across the county.
