Mexico Must Pay the Hague in Pious Fund Case

The international court of arbitration ruled that Mexico owes 1 420 000 in silver to California bishops for the pious fund, the first case before the court. The fund, raised in Europe in 1697, supported California missions and was managed by Mexico until 1846. Detectives arrested Carl Harvey and Allen Auger as suspects, with Harvey found carrying 100 and two watches believed stolen.
