Boone county residents question whether Corporal Newman of Lebanon truly captured the Spanish flag in the Santiago campaign. Five volunteers rode to the height. Newman says he retrieved the banner and carried it most of the way wrapped around his rifle. Affidavits will be sought to verify the tale amid rival Nebraska claims.
Attorney Winpenny won a verdict for Nettie Jewett against Mary Nestler, restoring seized household goods under a hotel law challenge. Nestler’s possession dispute showed she did not have full possession, prompting the switch of relief. Jewett then thanked the attorney with a kiss attempt, which he modestly declined.

Canton Ohio witnessed the fatal shooting of George D. Saxton brother of Mrs McKinley on a Friday night in front of Eva Althouse s residence. Suspect Mrs A F George amid years of contested marriage and divorce claims was arrested after police found her at Hazlett avenue. Witness Henry Bederman reported seeing a woman in black flee the scene and return moments later. Police say Saxton died instantly from three bullets. George had earlier settled a breach of promise case with Saxton for 1825 dollars. a later suit for 30000 dollars was dismissed. The theory points to Mrs George s jealousy over Althouse and alleged duplicity. Mrs George was jailed awaiting arraignment scheduled for Monday.
Mrs McKinley learns of her brother's death in Canton as the White House hosts Episcopal delegates. President McKinley maintains composure during the reception and funeral plans Vary. the presidential party will travel to Canton Monday after a westward leg.
Mrs. Anna E. George, arrested as the supposed murderess of George D. Saxton, slept soundly in the Canton city jail Friday night. Authorities made efforts to obtain statements about the tragedy but were unsuccessful.

Maxim inventor of the rapid fire gun spent six hours in police custody in New York after a warrant from Poughkeepsie based on Helen Maxim stating she is his wife and charging abandonment disorderly conduct and bigamy She backed claims of marriage to Maxim in 1878 and alleged existing marriage to Jane Budding and later to Sarah Haynes Maxim denied the charges saying the woman is not his wife and that she has bothered him for years The case was set for merit.
