A Strange Business Concern Refused Incorporation in Indiana

Attorney general Taylor advised Secretary of State that Hunt refused to incorporate in Indiana the National tontine investment company. Its articles came from Michigan and proposed dealing in jewelry and musical instruments. Officials likened it to the Tontine Surety and Diamond Contract companies ousted by Ohio. The Tontine contract resembled paying 80 dollars weekly with a 2 percent fine and a two carat diamond after 64 payments, with elaborate expense allocations.
