Albany Penny Press editor and proprietor Richard Cherry, 38, died at his home in Albany Georgia Tuesday night. The cause is given as self inflicted morphine overdose. Cherry was unmarried and highly popular in the community.
Tension between Sigma Chi and Phi Delta Theta at Butler College rose after an on campus incident involving a football team member in Anderson. affidavits from six Phi Delts claimed intoxication, countered by 16 Sigma Chi affidavits denying it. A college committee found no intoxication, prompting fear of perjury investigations and renewed rivalry memories between the frats.
An explosion at the St. Louis Gilson asphaltum mine near Fort Duchesne Utah killed two miners and injured three freighters who were loading ore. Mrs. Ella Curry of 295 North Senate Avenue assaulted Miss Eva Reeves, cashier at Haynes restaurant, with an umbrella after following Reeves and her husband, whom Curry suspects of infidelity. Reeves filed an assault affidavit. Curry was arrested and tried in police court, with judgment withheld.
