Harry Groff of C Roehring & Bro hardware at 878 Virginia Ave survived a grade crossing collision Thursday noon. While stopped for a train at Peoria and Hastern crossing on Columbia, a second unseen train struck his wagon. His horse died. Groff was thrown about 15 feet but suffered only minor bruises.
John McDonald a 2a Scotchman resident of 2230 W Morris sr. faced police court on a charge of working a short change racket against a woman. He sold oil cloth for 1.25 dollars and after a borrowing of 50 cents the case unraveled as miscounting led to a 25 cent refund and his release.
