As election day nears in Indianapolis, betting shifts reflect wavering support for Shank and Gauss. Voters weigh the city’s leadership, with party newspapers noting a surprising late swing, a likely high turnout, and decisive choices at the polls.
A remonstrance will be filed with the county commissioners to refuse a retail liquor license for William Lambert who plans a saloon at 3340 W Washington Street on the site formerly run by Daniel Long. Long’s license was revoked by Mayor Bookwalter as neighbors object to a saloon there.
Oscar F. Cochrane once a bookkeeper at Indianapolis American National Bank was arrested at Ft Slocum while serving in the army infantry branch. He allegedly embezzled 7000 in 1907 by falsifying records. He was indicted in 1908 after a bank loss and bond recovery. He had been hunted for two years, working at times as an actor.

Town Marshal Haskin of Lennox Washington was fatally wounded when burglars burst into Bradshaw's general store in Kansas City. One robber was wounded, the pair fled with a horse and buggy after the dawn confrontation.
Clyde Bowen, 23, jailed after deputies captured him three miles east of Newaygo. He killed his wife Sunday by slashing her throat from ear to ear amid jealousy and domestic trouble. Bowen attempted suicide by cutting his throat but survived.
Lloyd E. Goodrich faces charges for robbing three women in a West Side Chicago home. Beatrice Voorhees Margaret Lexington and Dorothy Little were restrained as the robber, who had just been released from jail, took rings from their fingers.
Frances Young, 32 Highland Place, fired at a Black intruder after her daughter Eva, 15, encountered him near the back door Sunday evening. The assailant escaped uninjured, the daughter suffered nervous shock and could not describe the man to Bicycle Policemen Nick and Hett.
Michael Foley the burglar was captured last Wednesday by Bicycle Policemen Mellin and Stewart after a fierce revolver duel with his partner William Cardwell. Foley kept a memento bullet from a policeman's revolver, lodged in his coat sleeve after it struck his button, narrowly missing his life. He boasted he could shoot a ten-cent piece at 30 feet and said he is glad he did not kill the officers. Foley, treated at the city hospital, was bound over to the grand jury after Bertillon measurements. His photo will go to the Chicago Bureau of Identification. a congratulatory letter from Rev. M. M. Lawson of Nashville, Ark., was received.
Judge James A. Pritchard of criminal court is laid up with throat trouble and a serious cold. He was away from his office most of last week and relapsed after walking to a barber shop. Prosecutor Hooton said no criminal court calls until Thursday.
Burglars broke into Mrs. Sarah Baum's residence at 1621 N Delaware Street through a side window early Monday morning and stole a purse a perfume box and five rings valued at 15 dollars.
Anna M Wilson told Superior Court No 2 Monday of her alleged marriage to Oran P Dickey and seeks annulment claiming he had a living Terre Haute wife. Dickey says his Terre Haute wife had a divorce. Wilson says she left a $10 weekly job and loss totals $1000, seeks $10000 damages. judge took case under advisement. Dickey awaits criminal bigamy indictment. bond set at 500 dollars.
Charles M. Sturgeon a former soldier in superior court No 2 was granted a divorce from his wife Ethel. He met her at a Kansas City railway station on returning from the Philippines and proposed marriage. The marriage occurred and they lived in Indianapolis. Ethel testified she was not contented with their home. Judge Leathers in other superior courts granted several divorces including Mary E. from Arthur Phillips and George E. from Mattie Updike. In superior court No 5 Miranda Jarrell told Judge Bartholomew that her husband beat her and damaged her home. No. 2 divorce granted. Lizzie separated from Charles B. White.
In Virginia the gubernatorial contest heats up with charges flying as voters head into tomorrow's election. Democrats claim a 25,000 vote edge while Prohibitionist Gen. Houses Menn is supported by liquor interests, and Capt. William P. Glass leads the Republican ticket.
Janitress finds Gamaliel Scott and Anna Scott dead in their rear room at 4481g E Washington. Police report Scott died undressed last Saturday night. Anna is incoherent, suspected to be worn by shock. Bank records suggest about 1300 in savings. safety deposit box held. three daughters and a son notified. Coroner and officers investigate, with neighbors recalling the couple as eccentric and private.
Perth Amboy New Jersey November 1 authorities investigated the double murder of Mrs Silas Marks and her daughter. Robbers stole 31600 from their home four miles from the city. The bodies were found by the husband who returned from church and crying with grief. A posse of farmers aided by dogs followed a trail but little hope remained of捕捕捕追捕事件 suspects believed to bevegz men. The countryside is alarmed and officials expect broad local cooperation.
