Convicted Pension Agent Faced Federal Court in Indiana
In Evansville Indiana Albert H Kahl whose real name is Adolph Itgenr pleaded guilty to posing as a pension agent and charging small fees for securing increased pensions. He admitted collecting one dollar from women for postage and other supposed expenses, said he was born in Buffalo and educated in Germany and New York, and explained the deceit to protect his two sons in Berlin. The panic of 1893 ruined him, and after earlier frauds he was sentenced to a year in a New Jersey prison, two years and a hundred dollar fine. Other defendants included Wm Bradshaw and several men noted for jail break attempts with injuries to their faces. Mayor Wilson of Noblesville faced a swindle charge as well. the case was continued due to defense circumstances.
