Reports say General MacArthur's weary troops face heat and fatigue near San Fernando while insurgents fortify three sides. Aguinaldo negotiates peace talks as 1 400 Hancock troops arrive to reinforce McArthur. A French envoy linked to prisoner releases is reportedly assassinated.
Manila May 1 Ten machine guns have been landed by insurgents at Capiz 75 miles from Iloilo. Senor Mabini head of the Aguinaldo cabinet says the insurgents are hopeful and will continue fighting relying on European intervention. Cavite insurgents prepare a desperate resistance.
London reports that Senor Lopez, a Filipino garonant, denies any desire to surrender. He states Aguinaldo remains in supreme command and that the Filipino forces show no intention of capitulating.
Washington reports Dewey may leave Manila before Watson's arrival, placing command with Capt Barker of the Oregon. The Man of Manila could return by July 1, greeted at sea by Sampson's squadron. Invitations pour into the navy department for Dewey to attend honors.
Washington dispatch relays Gen Otis message from Manila dated May 11. Volunteers first to return now at Negros and 45 miles from Manila, with transports arriving to carry returning troops. They are to leave for the United States later this month while Hancock enters harbor. Transports Nelson and Cleveland ship freight back empty.
Cable from Gen Otis reports gunboats moved to Calumpit for Rio Grande rail link. Troops establish temporary civil administration and protect civilians from insurgent abuses as signs of disintegration grow. Otis notes natural obstacles are surmountable and progress continues.
Washington May 11 report that the War Department is preparing to send four regiments of regulars by the Suez route to Manila. The decision underscores American forces first stage toward Pacific theater commitments as tensions in the Far East remain high.

The Marion county baseball club will face the state house team Saturday afternoon at the Ohio street grounds. Lineups include manager William H. Schmidt and captain Carl Hartman for the county squad, with pitchers Charles Yyler and substitutes J Wright, Lou Parker, and Clint Hare. The state house roster features captain J W Egnew and players Frank Kelly, Carl Wiley, L G Rothschild, and George Batchelor among others.
The funeral for James Coulter who died Tuesday night will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the family home 933 Fayette Street. Burial follows at Crown Hill. He once worked in plumbing with James McGauley. Survived by sons David A William and James the latter a student at St Marys Theological Seminary Cincinnati.
Chris Wishmeyer drilled a well at Mount Jackson for Mr. Harmon of the Haughville mineral baths and struck Blue Lick water Thursday at 1 am. The flow runs about 600 barrels a day, found at a depth of 1700 feet. Blue Lick water is counted the finest for bathing purposes.

German Indian apd Colored orphanages rely partly on county support, while commissioners decry the law as bungled and foresee upheaval for paupers and children. Deputy auditor criticizes the statute as impractical and likely to need adjustment.

Wiltie Evans and Mabel Laur, two girls, and Eli Weim’s diamond stud were central to a police court hearing. Kahn and Alfred Strouse testified about buying drinks for the women in a Markel street wineroom and the diamond transfer. Judge Cox bound over all three to the grand jury and warned Kahn about his boastful remark.

An unidentified, about six year old cat corpse was found in a Hesart morgue area near Prospect Street. A doctor planned to wait but left. a man described as driving a slop refuse near Bates house was questioned by coroners. No identifying marks or details were recovered. the body was found in filthy condition.
