Thirteen trapped miners were found alive after nineteen days in the Courrier mine near Lens France. They survived on wheat oats and mule stable rations and water after 1,200 miners died in the disaster. A 14 year old boy among the survivors showed extraordinary endurance amid the long ordeal.
