Fire engulfs the Clover Leaf mine west of Linton Indiana after an explosion triggers flames. No fire protection within ten miles. Reported as one of the best mines in the district, it may be impossible to control and most miners reportedly escaped.
Deputy Collector Short returns from a multi county moonshine raid in Perry Pike Knott and Lee counties locate and destroy eight plants. Large quantities of beer and whisky seized.
Chicago March 24 A mock armed with a butcher knife in the kitchen of the county insane asylum ending in tragedy. George Lightoer an inmate went on a fatal act ending his life by slashing his throat and nearly severing his head from his body.
The pulpit committee of the First Baptist Church, led by Phone J Villers, has not yet chosen a new pastor following the resignation of the Lev. The committee plans a slow, deliberate selection with no fixed timetable.
Edward Clark was elected county chairman of the Prohibition party at a mass convention. The meeting also selected delegates to the state convention with fifty five delegates apportioned for Marion County. A Prohibitionists meeting featured a speech by B L F Watson attacking the Democratic head Thomas Taggart. The court heard how he snatched the penny after offering to buy her a paper, and the girl recalled the cruel insult he made as he left.
Cleveland March 29 A basement blaze at the Pallsade hotel caused thick smoke waking 300 guests who rushed to exits in nightgown and bare feet. A man named Sam Climey sparked the fire by sleeping in the basement with a lit pipe.

Memphis March 29 Don Chalmers plantation manager shot and killed SA Arnold at the Hotel Gayoso bar after a dispute over a cake drink. Chalmers fired at close range wounding Arnold who died instantly. another shot hit the floor. Both victims were employed by J W Eldredge plantation. Chalmers claimed Arnold had broken up a fight and sent him to Memphis for action.
Former Indiana state auditor David B. Sherrick, now imprisoned, seeks a parole pending appeal to the supreme court. A Hartford City delegation led by A. G. Lupton urges Gov. Frank Hanly to grant clemency as Sherrick awaits his higher court review. Sherrick, serving time for misusing state funds, waits at Marion County Jail with supporters pressing for his release.
