In Bouriietor Iowa on March 21 a farmer Waldin found the Burlington Cedar Rapids and Northern bridge on fire eight miles south of town. He battled flames briefly, then ran two miles along the track to flag a passing train with a burning brand, saving over 100 passengers as the bridge burned to destruction.
State insurance commissioner George Washington Duke pursues two slick swindlers who fleeced Reubens in Lawrence and Dubois counties this spring. In Burrano on March 21 a jury convicted Clarence Robinson of second degree murder and Sadie Robinson of first degree manslaughter for the killing of Montgomery Gibbs. Clarence received a life sentence and Sadie 20 years. The Robins ons, formerly theatrical performers, were stranded in Buffalo and attempted a street holdup that led to Gibbs being shot.
Scranton March 21 George E Stevenson of Waverly has filed for an injunction to stop Principal F C Hanyan from reading the Bible in Waverly public schools He argues the practice contravenes law and aims to create a test case in court
Cincinnati report states John Roth, a prisoner, stabbed fellow convict John Grant in the left side with tailor’s shears on Thursday. Grant is dying. Also noted is a Cleveland officer marriage where Adjutant Joseph Hargreaves wed Lieutenant Amy Talbot, Cincinnati, with a Salvation Army officiant.
