A robbery at Charles Mayer & Co store on Washington street occurred Sunday night, yielding watches rings pins and lockets valued at about 150 dollars. No suspect was caught yet. detectives examine the scene using the Pearl street bridge as a possible entry. Ford Mayer downplays severity while the police pursue leads.
Mrs Josephine Stephens a 50 year old widow and Ta com a laundry employee was seriously injured Monday morning when a sock fell to the floor she stooped to pick it up and her hair caught in a crank shaft her scalp tore from the bone and hung on the shaft she was taken to the City hospital by Dr Hicks due to the injury the house is at 64 South Alabama Street Beth.
The Irvington clerk's report shows town bonded debt at 19000 and Indianapolis near its debt limit. City controller Breunig argues the Indianapolis school board should assume the 19000 debt since funds funded school purposes and control of the property lies with the separate school board. Harry Lee a colored man was fined one dollar and costs by Police judge Stubbs for selling a keg of water to saloon keeper Lanahan and calling it beer. Lee claimed the keg came from a candidate and he did not know its contents. Report says F B Hampton of White county may replace Maj Miller as clerk to Adjutant General Ward. Ward denied knowledge of the name and said no confirmation until about April 1 with possible changes in arrangements.
The board held a closed session Monday to discuss a new pest house. It was learned the initial $15,000 estimate may be reduced to about $12,000, with no information released publicly.
In superior court Monday the city won against J Lincoln Pfaff of Chicago a tailor selling by samples in Indianapolis. The court held the 25 per day transient merchant license does not apply to merchants who stock goods in another state and deliver directly to customers in the city. Pfaff challenged the city demand to pay the license.
