Witnesses Probed as Court Weighs Street Car Case

Trial reveals extensive witness testimony with 90 examined by Monday night. The Street Car Company fought a costly suit after allegedly seeking a settlement of 250 dollars. Attorneys Latta Hogate Marsh and Winter represent the company, Beckett Ayres and Black for Mrs. Beaupre, before Judge Offutt.

Narrow Escape From Death Aged Preacher Rescued From Roof

Thomas A. Howard a preacher over seventy had a narrow escape from death when a fire trapped him on the third floor of a brick building at 8 and S. Le wire st. Mrs Mattie Pladbes barely escaped and alerted the firemen. Firemen Warry Green and a partner carried the exhausted preacher to the ground through a gasping stairway as flames and smoke drove him back. The building owned by Hendrickson Letler & Co was practically destroyed with two of their horses burned. The south half was unoccupied and the cause remains unknown.

Indiana convention sets broad tax assessment reforms

Davis Named Secretary of Public Safety Police Board

The Board of Works received a protest against the St Joseph street asphalt from Delaware to Fort Wayne avenue and referred it to the city engineer. Arrows Cycle Company Sues for 20000 Dollars

The Arrows cycle company sues TH. T. Conde implement company alleging H. T. Conde used his position to aid the implement concern at the cycle firm’s expense. It is claimed Conde moved books to Indianapolis from Shelbyville and received 300 to 400 bicycles not properly accounted for. The suit, filed earlier, was kept secret until Tuesday.

Supreme court weighs employers liability act vs railroads

The supreme court heard oral argument Wednesday on the constitutionality of the employers liability act as it may apply to other corporations beyond railroads. Hodges v Standard Wheel Co., Hancock county, featured Judge Howe for Hodges and Elam for the wheel company. The court previously sustained the act for railroads but did not rule on other corporations.
