One-Legged Veteran Linn Dies From Gum Opium Overdose
John P Linn an elderly veteran died Wednesday morning at the Helping Hand mission from a gum opium overdose. Coroner Nash will determine if the death was intentional or accidental. Linn lost a leg in the Civil War while escaping a provost guard. He recently stayed at West Baden to visit relatives and returned Monday to the mission. He was seen Tuesday to suffer a dreaded foot pain and to take a large dose of gum opium. Central Medical College students attempted to aid him before his death and his body was sent to the city morgue.
