Legally Dead for 60 Years Is Alive in Denver Story
William A. Jamieson, a Denver janitor, has been declared alive by the U.S. pension department after decades of presumed death. A gravestone at Andersonville marked his death in 1864, but he escaped Union soldiers near Plymouth, North Carolina, and returned to northern lines. He later learned to sign his name and kept correspondence with fellow soldiers one of whom may have caused the mistaken grave marker.
