Four people were injured when an elevator at the Clay pool building plummeted from the third floor to the basement. Passengers included Charles Hendricks A J Ross Misa Leona Scott and Leon Rose with operator Cornelius Wilson. Hendricks suffered severe leg injuries and was taken to City hospital. The two safety clutches failed to engage as the car descended suddenly. The four were shaken but not seriously frightened during the fall and were helped by police and bystanders once the car struck.

Capt Thomas Madden 64 died after weeks of illness at his home 1333 N Waas street. A Civil War veteran he served as city councilman and was president of the Board of Safety under Mayor Holtzman. Born May 1 1836 in Duniry Ireland he came to New York at 16 and reached Indianapolis in 1865. He built furniture starting 1878 and is survived by son John J Madden and daughters Mrs C A Connor and Mrs E J O Reilly. his wife died seven years ago.

Lightning Strikes Moving Car Injuring Woman in Leap
A southbound College avenue street car struck by lightning at New Jersey street and Massachusetts avenue around 11 30 AM left Macy D. Knight 45 of 2216 Hovey street semi conscious after she leaped from the rear platform. She was taken to a hospital as witnesses reported others on board were shocked but spared serious injuries. The car’s trolley pole and motor were damaged and traffic delayed about 15 minutes.
