Owners Seek to Beat Dredging Scheme in Indianapolis
Citizens remonstrance urges small property owners to join against a proposed dredging scheme on Fall Creek and White River from near the army post to southwest of the city. Estimates range from 2.5 to 3 million dollars, with a 3 percent assessment on Marion county real estate to cover costs. Plan faces opposition over benefits to landowners and potential dredging consequences, prompting calls for signatures and donations to fund the remonstrance effort.
Remonstrance Against Full Creek Drainage Campaign
A petition in Marion county superior court seeks dredging of Fall creek from the army post to White river and to the south line of Center township at an estimated $3.6 million. Proposed assessment would hit Indianapolis real estate and some outside lands, about 3 percent of each city lot’s value. Citizens’ Defense Committee asks two thirds of affected property owners to sign remonstrance to defeat the project, offering to collect signatures at no cost. Signatures required from owners, with both spouses signing when property is joint ownership, and mail immediately to 301 Lemcke Building, City.
