Iowa returns show Gov. B A Carroll renominated by a slim margin over Warren Garst. Insurgents gain power in Congress with Prouty sweeping the Seventh district while Hull loses. Democratic focus centers on I S Pepper winning in the Second district over De Armand.
In Washington on June 9, Republicans in Iowa report an insurgent win may be sweeping. Only four or five of 171 congressional nominees may be conservatives. Carroll’s renomination was anticipated by Senators Dolliver and Cummins. Hulls loss is hailed. Cummins says progressives will control the state convention and Des Moines district. Hepburn’s old district may again elect a Democrat.
In Constantinople on June 9 a government led registration of all Greeks in Turkey began, seen as a step toward expulsion and a key flare in the deteriorating Turkey Greece rift. Ministers cite the Cretan dispute as a war pretext, with Turkish rule at stake over Crete.
Marion Motor Car Sales files suit against American Motor Car Sales of New York seeking 127000 in damages after alleging a contract to distribute American products was breached. The Thursday filing states Marion entered a distribution agreement which the American firm allegedly violated.

The seven members of the interstate commerce commission prepared for a long tussle with proposed railroad rate increases. Upon passage of the law the commission will assess reasonableness of increases, dispatch special agents to railroad HQs, and demand information to justify the proposed tariffs.

Special to The Sun reports in Kokomo Indiana on June 9 that Judge Kirk Patrick and Mr and Mrs John H Wagner spooning in court led to Mrs Wagner being refused a warrant for her husband’s arrest on a charge of attempting to steal their child. Wagner had been jailed recently on a charge of breaking a picture over his wife’s head in an alleged attempt on her life but was released on bond.

In Haverstraw on June, five people died when a south bound engine hit a funeral coach at a crossing. Driver William Bede and four passengers including Miss Kessler and Mr and Mrs Seef er perished. The coach was returning from Mount Reese cemetery and the tragedy occurred after gates reportedly lowered by a gatekeeper trapped the coach on the tracks.
The Good Roads congress of northern Indiana will meet in South Bend on Friday to act on Carl G. Fisher’s offer of $10,000 worth of material for an ideal highway from South Bend to Plymouth. Acceptance requires immediate incorporation by the congress to proceed.
Representative Wilson of Pennsylvania asserts American officers are influenced by President Ding of Mexico to persecute Mexicans in the United States and send them back to Mexico where they are often shot.
Senator Beveridge urged a preliminary survey authorization for a northern Indiana canal from Lake Michigan to Lake Erie via Fort Wayne. He argued the canal is feasible and desirable, and urged recommittal to reinstate the clause, supported by Senator Burton of Ohio. The Senate adopted the river and harbor conference report 45 to 12, omitting the canal project.
Judge Collins tests speed limits by trial runs from five to thirty miles per hour. Andrew Hutchins admits speeding and is fined ten dollars and costs. Collision occurs at Bellefontaine and Seventeenth streets involving motorcyclist Thomas Garber. Garber says he does not wish to persecute Hutchinson.
