Two men lay shot dead at the city morgue on Monday morning. Ben Rettich a brewery foreman and Harry Rosengarten a merchant policeman were brothers in law to city police. Relatives of Rosengarten urge investigation into possible murder. Police are divided on the motive.
Ben Rettich 39 a foreman at Schmidt's brewery died by suicide at his residence 1055 Davis st Milwaukee from a 22 caliber target rifle reportedly after drinking and melancholy. He left a widow five stepchildren and a connection to patrolman Otto Simon. The death occurred around 5 a m Sunday with police noting instant fatality and no evident motive beyond intoxication and depression.
Harry Rosengarten 33 a well known Indianapolis merchant policeman is found dead in an alley near St Clair and Pratt streets. Police say evidence points to self inflicted death but friends dispute this until the 38 caliber revolver at the scene is positively identified as his. He lived on St Clair street with a widow sister to Policeman Perry Lund and a brother who captains the South Street engine house.
The Board of Public Works approved the city engineer’s remanstrance report to resurface Virginia Avenue from Stevens to Prospect and from New Jersey to East, citing a protest by 20 percent of resident owners over a requirement that asphalt be “pitch lake asphalt.” Only one resident owner, Canita Vinci of 310 Virginia Ave, opposes the second project along the same avenue.

A Panhandle fast Chicago train leaving Union Station at 11 35 collided with a person named Anjurea Andrew J Peterson at 2307 Bloydave near Twenty-second and Lake Erie tracks. Workers had left a switch between Lake Erie and Belt open while repairing it. The engineer did not notice the open switch and ran into it. No damage to the train was reported.
Mayor Bookwalter reported a communication from Uncle Sam noting RB T Eliott who joined the navy and gave Indianapolis as home has deserted from Hartford New Orleans on May 10. Navy deserters are treated similarly to army deserters.
