Otto Schmidt, 41, owner of the Columbia half saloon at Delaware and McCartys, fell from a second story window Saturday night. He died at 3 in the morning. Onlookers summoned Dr. Buehler. Schmidt had stood chatting with patrolmen Koons and Leet before climbing to bed, possibly losing balance removing his shoes. Schmidt had lived at the corner for about 15 years and was well known on the South side.
A Columbus Indiana resident writes Coroner Castor asking if a Miss Susie Jenkins died by her own hand at 244 Alabama Street on July 1. The coroner sent Constable Etter to investigate, but nothing could be learned. No recent deaths or Jenkins residents in the neighborhood are confirmed.
From Cincinnati a description of a brutal family massacre by Rita Robbins near Tiiseemile creek on the upper Ohio. A. J. Call and several children were slain or wounded as Nettie and Lottie attempted to flee, with Rita Robbins later identified by a coroner’s inquest as the killer. Crowds watched as authorities pursued justice and residents feared further threats along the riverbank.

C ET Carter to cement sidewalks and gutters on Grace Street from Washington to Moore Street at 10 cents. Davidson & Lingenfelter to cement walks and sodding lawns on Hast Street from Ohio to North Street at 44.

Robert Lostutter 26, an Indianapolis drug clerk, slit his throat at his Rising Sun home after losing his Stucky’s job in May. He lingered, spoke of a “better job next time.” A friend, S S Mullen, and Mills had arranged a return to Indianapolis for employment. Lostutter had a sweetheart in Indianapolis and relatives of prominence.
