In Loganport Indiana on Saturday dawn a riot broke out among Italian laborers at the Kenneth quarries. Police arrived as two men opened fire with revolvers injuring Officer Vermiss in the wrist. The car was pulled into the city and guarded until morning, with one assailant still at large.

Mrs Mary A Longnecker 7 percent died at 11 a m Saturday from exhaustion after an operation. She recently lived in Southport and was brought to Indianapolis for treatment. A widow born at Belmont and Michigan streets corner in a house still standing. Funeral set for 4 p m Sunday from James Pierce residence in Southport.
Grace Stevens and Retta Reinking, both smallpox patients, escaped from the pest house on Friday night. The disease had reached the pustular stage and health officials warn of high contagion risk. They had been admitted to the hospital a week earlier.
Ferdinand Black of the Cincinnati cruiser, a marine who learned his status from an informant in Indianapolis, is held at police headquarters as a deserter. He enlisted in Chicago last January, earned a Newport News liberty, and later rode a train toward Cleveland with 17 marines before stopping in Indianapolis.
