Attorney Taylor Groninger sought a continuance for three gamblers arrested in the Kissel raid. Judge Stubbs postponed action until the men appear in court. He left to tend his ill wife and appointed a special judge. The cases were postponed until next Wednesday.
Fletcher Wagner son of Dr T A Wagner of 1419 Broadway may run for a Cecil Rhodes Scholarship in Oxford. He is a Stanford graduate with high honors who won the Carnot medal and wrote a renowned junior farce. Wagner plans to represent Indiana if chosen and notes a decision on the first Rhodes selection will be set at a meeting of college presidents and the State Board of Education.

Wabash railroad officials state they will not drop excursion rates to New York while Atlantic City trips from Chicago and St Louis continue. C S Crane, general passenger agent in St Louis, sent a telegram via Maxfield outlining that if competitors ask Wabash to withdraw these fares they must first drop Atlantic City departures. The line asserts Atlantic City remains the top regional summer resort.
In Fayette county, Indiana, hogs destroyed a wagon bed to reach corn, causing a flood of feeding that led some hogs to founder. The farmer relocated his wagon after the incident. The item ends with ads for Hood's Sarsaparilla and bargains on upright pianos and oats.
Secretary Dempsey in the Scranton district says the anthracite caucus endorses President Mitchell's recommendation with a proviso to allow the national board to raise funds if needed and to restrict bituminous coal shipments to anthracite areas. Dr. J. L. Parsons, 60, died at 3 a m Friday at Deaconess hospital after an appendicitis operation. Funeral services will be held at 3 p m Sunday at the family home 510 E Fifteenth st. The body will be taken to Rush county for burial Monday morning.

LaPorte Indiana July 18 George Moore and Thomas Ford, both colored, escaped from the Michigan City prison after scaling the walls.
Representatives of the Pennsylvania and Vandalia railroads told the State tax board they should not raise rates as they weather depressions. S. O. Pickens argued for keeping corporation ratings stable. J. G. Williams spoke for Vandalia, admitting past disagreements with the board.
