A mid lake storm aboard two yachts from St Joseph to Chicago is reported by Capt. Sterm as the worst he has seen, with uncertainty over whether the vessels survived. A severe storm caused property damage in St Joseph with blown down trees and several houses. In other news, a prisoner John Harter was released by Judge Sullivan after assaulting his wife. Local court actions included a liquor on Sunday fine of $10 and costs for Ben Snyder, and a disruptive incident involving Miss Mattie Cully at a reception leading to a $25 fine and 30 days for dress offenses. In Cleveland, Republicans rally for the state convention with major party expectations.

Pittsburg raid on a Chinese laundry at 245 Federal street led to arrests of a white girl and two Chinese men. The girls, aged 20 and 22, were fined while the women could not pay and remained in custody. Names given by the Chinese men were King Lee Ah Les and Charles Gun. The scene included opium fumes and undress, and both girls were later identified by raiders. Parents were summoned from the mayor’s office, with a later note on social status.
