Chicago dispatch reports Vice Presidential nominee Sewall undecided on active campaigning, citing his focus on shipbuilding and committee decisions. Bryan arrives in Chicago for notification talks with Senator White as August timing and New York as the likely site are discussed.
Indiana backed Sewall on the last ballot Saturday as S Jackson of Indiana joined the committee to ratify Groan’s nomination. Shively and Matthews, also Indiana, declined the vice presidency at the Friday night silver conference. William Jennings Bryan attended the Chicago meeting, where Senator Jones was chosen chairman and Har rity presided over the temporary organization. Bryan’s visit included tears at the grave of Lyman Trumbull, his former teacher.
The state board of tax commissioners met Monday at 2 PM to begin a six week session at the state house. The first week focuses on assessing railroads telegraph and express companies and other large corporations. Appeals from county boards of review will follow with 145 days total scheduled. The board includes the governor, secretary of state, state auditor, Cal J N Walker and D I Allen of Frankfort, with Col Hart as secretary.
Maggie McMahan, 19, was arrested on a trifling charge sworn by Nettie Murphy. Constable Tolin said Maggie's tears moved him to take responsibility for her appearance, sparing her jail time. Both women worked at the Spencer house, the dispute over money leading to the case.

Gus Rahke reports a Sunday night robbery at his New Jersey and South streets residence. Two armed men demanded valuables, stole diamonds worth 1900 dollars, 85 in money and a gold watch, while Rahke persuaded them to spare his shirt. His wife provided the cash and jewelry as requested. Detectives seek the suspects.
A Reuters dispatch from New York reports a panic in the Spanish forces in Cuba as yellow fever and feared cholera spread along the trocha. Hundreds of soldiers are hospitalized in Santiago and Havana, with dire mortality, desertions, and calls for more hospitals and physicians.
A tall rural man named Benjamin Russell sought a marriage license for Maggie Morgan but was refused since she is 17 and requires her father's consent. The Dietrich syndicate, now controlling most Indiana natural gas plants, announces a 26 percent gas price hike for outside towns effective Oct 1. Rumors say Indianapolis may follow, but the Indianapolis Gas Company denies any change for the city. The Dietrich group says it has no ties to the Indianapolis firm and locals need not expect higher fuel costs than last year.

J T Wise testified Monday to the coroner about Leotis McLain’s murder by William Perry at Flackville last Saturday. Wise described Perry drawing a knife, Miller ordering it away, and Perry stabbing McLain four to five times. The grand jury opened a case review Monday with multiple witnesses. Judge Brown grants a permanent injunction preventing the street car company from extending tracks on Bellefontaine street.
