Washington reports a dispatch from Gen Shafter indicating plans to resume operations at Santiago Monday morning. Later reports unofficially say bombardment resumed at daybreak and American troops were pushing toward the new Spanish entrenchments.
Reports from Aguadores detail a renewed bombardment of Santiago by US ships two hours after Gen. Linares rejected terms. Shafter deferred decision to Washington while Spanish defenses and looting continued. Refugees describe terror, a widow slain, and a city in fear awaiting American arrival and order. The First Illinois and recruits arrived. ships and crews prepare for further action. Journalist Hearst and Nicholas Fish noted for Cuban soil press and recovered body of Sgt. Hamilton Fish.
The Norwegian steamer Bratton was chased and captured Sunday morning by the Brooklyn. She carried a cargo of supplies sent to Santiago in advance by Kingston and Port Antonio merchants. The vessel is tied up as the fleet approaches Santiago harbor.
Playa del Este dispatch dated July 9 reports from Hayti July 11 that Gen Toral who has led Spanish troops in Santiago since Amares was wounded.

A letter from chaplain Weaver denies cruelty to Private Cooper on the saw horse. Brigadier-general Barnett is said to have had no role. O M Tichenor named adjutant of Durbin's regiment amid ongoing major difficulty.
In Shelbyville Indiana on July 11 Chas Pittman owner of a stationery stand was robbed of 60 dollars after his trunk was broken. Sunday Harry Brown was arrested for the crime and confessed implicating Clarence Shipp. Both were bound over to the grand jury with Shipp claiming innocence.
Mrs Brannon mother of Thomas Brannon and gatekeeper at the Union Station died Sunday morning from paralysis after being stricken on the morning of July 4. she never recovered.
John 5S. Siddons heroically stopped a maddened horse attached to a surrey carrying an old man and a boy at Maryland and Meridian streets Sunday. He risked his life to avert disaster.
The Board of public works awarded contracts for gravel and brick roadways across several alleys and streets including first alley east of Madison avenue, Chestnut street, Detroit avenue, and Twenty-sixth street. Indiana Improvement Company and J Harry Roberts are among the contractors. Final actions include cement walks on Newland avenue and asphalt on Meridian alley with changes to Shelby street paving to remove streetcar tracks.
Captives from the Vizcaya recount the battle off Santiago with the Texas delivering the coup de grace. A shell from the Texas and a Brooklyn shell crippled the ship, killing all in the affected area. The report notes Spanish losses and praise for American naval firepower and press coverage by Steep and Bellairs.

The council approved an ordinance to purchase park lands at a special meeting while the Board of Public Works prepared deeds and notified landowners whose offers were accepted. Officials plan to allocate part of 50000 for beautification and expect Pogue's Run and Riverside parks to open soon. One dissent came from Mr. Allen. a minority report urged defeat.
