Escape Increase as Workhouse Prisoner Flees Again

Despondent Carpenter Resists Lifesaving Efforts
Herman Kassing a 45 year old carpenter, out of work, swallowed a large amount of rat poison Monday. His wife tried to summon help as he fought recovery in a coal shed on Lismarck Street. Doctors Barr and Wright at the dispensary saved him after three hours of heroic treatment. He previously attempted suicide by cutting his throat. He has two children and is now at City Hospital.
