Joseph H. Smart identified as Stewart was arrested after a chase sparked by Mrs. Minnie Haberly at 507 N Illinois. He denied breaking in but was seized by two passersby and Bicycle Officers Todd and Nick. Smart, from Chicago, worked at the Big Four freight office and had been living at the Y M C A.
Mrs Mary Cunningham and her 3 year old daughter Mary were found dead in bed in a gas filled room at Mrs Cunningham's Chicago home. Patrick Cunningham, her brother in law, found them after arriving from Louisville. Police believe a gas fixture was opened accidentally following a fight that had been extinguished.

Cincinnati July 1 Mor ris Grosh 18 of Lockland was found dead inside his ice plant after exposure to heat over 100 degrees. He moved from the outside heat to an engine room and then a cold storage room where a fatal temperature shock caused death. A doctor pronounced him frozen to death.
Robert T. Proctor of Elkhart, father of Senator R E Proctor, is appointed an inspector under the Indiana Railroad Commission. The appointment takes effect August 1, succeeding Charles M Preble.
In St Louis on July 1 William Wright, recently acquitted of involvement in Constable Young’s murder, shot and fatally wounded his best friend Charles Tozier at the home of Mrs. Marie Mohrle. Wright claimed he fired while Tozier slept and dreamed. Police found Tozier on the street. he died at the hospital after refusing to name his shooter until under pressure. Wright was located in bed at his home.
Police have evidence that Leon Ling pursued for the Elsie Sigel murder is concealed in New York City disguised as a Chinese laborer. He was last seen in a Newark Chinese laundry then in Passaic and Jersey City before vanishing, with missionaries aiding his escape.
Dewey Rentsch a 14 year old boy drowned Thursday in a gravel pit at Thirty second street and Fall Creek. He was with friends on a fishing trip and stepped into a deep hole. He sank before rescue could reach him. He lived on Thirteenth street near College avenue.
