Havana reports the 24 year old Cuban insurgent leader Nestor Arangueren was killed after raids near the capital. Disputed accounts cite an encampment clash with Gen. Arangulrien’s battalion or an ambush while visiting a farm. His body arrived in Havana and drew large crowds.
Madrid reports Spain and the United States near a reciprocal commercial treaty with a separate Cuban schedule. A U S delegate will negotiate most favored nation access for the United States as Spain seeks a peaceful settlement and Cuban autonomy advances. The accord could spark rapid American capital in Cuba, expand markets for U S goods, and stabilize property.
