Blaine Will Be Buried Private Monday in Washington

Sorrow fills the capital as Blaine’s private funeral is scheduled for Monday at the Church of the Covenant. Dr Hamlin will officiate and the body will rest in Oak Hill Cemetery Georgetown. The red cedar casket bears a solid silver plate with the inscription.

Blaine Death Prompts National Mourning and Funeral Plans

James Gil Blaine died January 27 1338 in Washington D C at about age. Pallbearers will number 12 drawn from Blaine’s personal and official friends. A friend recalled his high pressure work and poor eating habits. Blaine was a wealthy man with real estate holdings in Washington valued over 250000 and profits from a silver mine with Elkins. Telegraph messengers swarmed Blaine’s residence on Saturday while the city draped buildings in black. An astrologer had warned of a death in 1898 before January 28. The funeral will be private with limited attendance. Grover Cleveland sent condolences praising Blaine’s statesmanship.
