Washington and the nation mourn the death of James G Blaine after a year of illness. Reports from Blaine's bedside describe a gradual decline, a final relapse, and peaceful passing. The president and cabinet members announce national mourning with a state funeral planned for Monday in Washington.
A Friday morning dispute over uniform caps led to eight cars on the Columbia and Clifford avenues lines being parked at Louisiana barnas. Officials later narrowed the order to apply only to conductors, and service resumed.
The body of Ella Ford a Camden colored girl was found murdered Wednesday night in the cellar of 89 Ruth Street in Eoscope of the Villain area. Her aged lover George Morris 60 disappeared after selling all his possessions following a jealous quarrel over Ellas liking for William Brown. A friend dreamt of the deed prompting a search that uncovered the body buried face down with a hammer wound. Authorities suspect Morris committed the crime.
Ex priest George P. Rhudolph, formerly of Cleveland, drew a revolver during a talk on Why I left the Romish church at the opera house. Shots fired sparked panic, 10 to 20 rounds, several women bruised, no injuries reported, mob excess and guard escorted Rhudolph away. Public meeting planned, no arrests yet.

Friday was the deadline for Harry Crawford attorney for the I D W railway to file a petition for rehearing in the case of P B F Pierce holder of the first mortgage against the I D W. The dispute concerns over a million dollars and if the petition is not filed the mortgage will be foreclosed and the road sold. As of 3 p m Crawford had not presented the papers to the clerk of the supreme court.
The private sanitarium of J. G. Holmes in Rom Ga burned completely on Thursday night causing about 100000 dollars in losses. Seventy five inmates barely escaped with their lives as flames spread quickly and investigators labeled the fire incendiary.

The Supreme Court on Friday refused a rehearing in the state apportionment suit. Attorney-general Smith is not entitled to another hearing, and Judge Howard wrote the opinion with Chief Justice Coffee concurring. Gen Abner Doubleday died in New Jersey on January 27 after Brights disease. Born June 26, 1819 at Balliston Spa, he trained at West Point. He fought in the Mexican War and fired the first gun at Fort Sumter, later commanding forces defending Washington and serving as a brigadier general. He was active in Virginia campaigns and a Gettysburg hero.

A search found the items in her room. she denied theft saying the deceased widow gave them to her. No evidence contradicted her account, and she was released.
Mrs Nannie Salmon and her two children Bernard and Rebecca aged two, were fatally burned at their Williamsburg home after a lamp overturned at breakfast. The mother and children’s clothing caught fire and the father, trying to smother the flames, was badly burned. Iris eyesight was completely destroyed. Alfred Stout, a colored murderer, was hanged at 12:40 Friday in Enxrox Maryland. He broke into farmer Geo Ditmar’s home near Bohemia Manor to rob and struck Ditmar’s sleep-plagued head with a club. Ditmar died in Philadelphia days later. Gov. Matthews’ heart moved for John W Holmes, 78, a Me dora citizen. Holmes, convicted of bribery and fined, was released though the fine and ten-year disfranchisement remain.
Thomas Morrow was acquitted in Justice Daniels' court on a charge of receiving stolen goods. Also released were Thomas Monroe and William Holt, detained on suspicion of involvement in the Burts shoe store robbery in West Indianapolis. They plan to sue for false imprisonment after eight days in custody.
City of Mexico on January 27 reports the Supreme Court of Military Justice confirmed the death sentence for Colonel Nieves Hernandez, accused of aiding revolutionist Garza. The sentence will be carried out within a week.
