Oliver Willard Pierce a witness in Monty Leonard vs Bellevue road house seeks injunction and damages. He describes an association promoting health and comfort and recounts listening to Prof Trumper and occasional liquor on Sundays. Elmer Mansfield, 19, a North-side highwayman, turned himself in after police identified two of his victims Miss Laura Fisher and Miss Grace Bigelow. He confessed to multiple robberies, waived examination, and explained heavy drinking led to his spree. He had recently been released from the workhouse after a petty theft sentence.
Patrick J. Garton as receiver for J. P. Kavanagh is winding down the Pennsylvanian business rapidly. Rumors place Kavanagh in Buffalo Rochester and Toronto about ten days ago. R E Purcell of the Vincennes Sun spoke at the Southern Indiana press association in the state house Tuesday. A curfew ordinance in Invernes failed to frighten youths on Tuesday night as the 8 o’clock whistle warning went largely unheard. A tea store blaze near Senate Avenue drew many onlookers while police, lacking explicit orders, did not enforce the rule. The scene showed scant enforcement and little sign of curfew compliance among local youngsters.
A passenger train on the Central Pacific derailed about a mile east of Colfax. The engineer and a fireman were killed, a passenger seriously injured, and three trainmen hurt. The head locomotive boiler exploded scalding Engineer Hackett who died shortly after. Fireman Trackett and Wireman Lightner were killed or badly injured, with others sustaining injuries. The mail car burned and extensive damage occurred in the wreckage.
