Democratic leaders who oppose county local option now back stricter liquor laws. They warn repeal plus ward or township options won’t suffice, pushing heavy penalties and high license fees to curb saloons, blind tigers, and bootlegging while preserving state revenue.
At Beagle Kansas a Missouri Kansas & Texas northbound flyer derailed after splitting a switch. Engineer John Cowden of Parsons is believed killed. Vera Lee, after hours in the sweatbox, confessed in Milwaukee on January 18 to shooting and killing her husband Otto Lundstrum following a quarrel over whiskey. She said Lundstrum refused her a drink, produced a revolver, then she fired three shots. earlier she had claimed he killed himself.

A. Ellsworth Butler of Indianapolis, a Republican, was appointed clerk of the state printing board to succeed Harry Slough, recently chosen by Former Gov. Hanly and confirmed as a state bar commissioner. Butler, a printer, has lived at 1815 Highland Avenue and has worked at the Indianapolis plant.

A major theater party is planned at the Grand to honor the Indiana Retail Merchants Association. About 1,200 to 1,500 attendees from the city will enjoy a lively vaudeville act by Besnull and Crowder and Crowder & Coop. The event caps the association’s season with a festive evening at the Grand.
