In an 18 year prison sentence, Winnie Smith was found guilty of manslaughter after a lengthy deliberation that stretched over 29 hours. The jury’s action shocked the court and spectators as bailiffs announced the verdict amid a tense courthouse scene.
In Knoxville a nearly 70-year-old Rev. William Hunt, a former Monroe County justice of the peace, was convicted of moonshining in U S court. The report bundles miscellaneous political notes and a chaotic list of names and ailments from a local club gathering.
