Widespread tremors hit Genoa Venice Bologna Milan and other towns. Reports say Treviso suffered violent shocks with Imola and Verona also affected. No major casualties yet though panic rises as residents fear further damage and ruined buildings. The pope sent a telegram to Rieci with no reply received.
Mrs J C Shirtz, in night attire, evacuated her baby from the rear grocery at 845 W New York St as flames and hot plaster forced escape. Firemen later found $200 in groceries and $150 building loss. The Mattingly bill would require campaign contribution disclosure and removal for violations. Other measures include juror selection reform, tenement housing health rules, and election law amendments with voting machines. Pearson proposes notaries in the legislature and a closed season for fishing. McCullough advances bills 49 and 50.
In a Big Four forgery case, Alfred G. Williams faces a dramatic moment as Mrs. Alfred G. Spahn testifies he is her husband and father of two. She hasn't seen him in over three years and he reportedly used the names Spahn and Williams while working for the railroad. Divorce papers were served in court as handwriting experts testified.

C T Griffith of Indianapolis searches New York for his buyer Orville O Carvin who disappeared after departing Irvington December 29 to buy stock in Philadelphia and Baltimore. Griffith notes Carvin is the firm’s top salesman and well supplied.
Joseph Ragsdale of Louisville came to Indianapolis seeking work and stayed at the California house on South Wisconsin street. After paying expenses he had $2.95 left. He reported the money missing after claiming to have seen night clerk William Brittan and night bartender Joseph McComb in his room. McComb and Brittan, who said they work at the hotel without salary, were arrested by Detectives Simon and Smith.
W. F. Moore returned from the east and learned a large number of Democrats endorsed him for chairman of the Democratic city committee He said he would meet the committee Wednesday and give a definite answer indicating he would accept if approved by the group.
A starving man with a wife and two children walked four miles to the Salvation Army center in Indianapolis to plead for help. Major Escott granted 75 cents of groceries, noting rising aid requests due to cold weather and fuel shortages. He reports 11 grocery orders issued in one day and coal scarcity affecting many families.
About 250 members of the Brewery Workers union plan a Wednesday 5 o'clock strike against the Indianapolis Brewers association over rejected wage demands. The walkout affects Indianapolis American Home and Capital City breweries with only stablemen kept on for horse care. The union seeks higher weekly wages, recalls commission pay on returned bottles, and opposes the four cent per case and two cent per pint commissions. The strike has backing from the Central Labor Union and the State Federation of Labor.
