Havana reports spread that General Maceo, wounded but alive, has been taken to Siguanea hospital for care as Spanish forces and Cuban insurgents clash along the southern Cuban coast. Contrasting statements from the Cuban junta deny the revival claim while detailing the combat and pursuit surrounding Zertucha.
City officials paid out substantial sums on Thursday as work to close 1885 entries continued. Controller Johnson issued checks totaling over 50 000 to utilities, services, and departments including water works 16 283.63 electric 6 794.06 county rent 2000 and 2500 city assessment shares.
