R. J. Nolan Killed Crossing Rail Tracks
Richard J. Nolan, 49, a blacksmith from 125 W. McCarty, was fatally injured crossing Union Railway tracks at East Street. A Panhandle passenger train struck him after he failed to notice the approaching train. he died hours later at St. Vincent's hospital. He served on the city council and left a widow and son. An eyewitness account notes conflicting circumstances of the accident. He belonged to several local fraternal and Catholic groups.
