The Kentucky Court of Appeals denied Alonzo Walling a new trial for the Pearl Bryan murder, aligning with the Jackson case. Both men face execution pending gubernatorial clemency, with petitions circulating among Newport and Walling supporters.
Frank Robbins of the Cincinnati Times-Star was arrested by order of the court of appeals after the Walling decision. He confessed to technical contempt for eavesdropping during a senate floor consultation above the judge’s chamber, and was fined five dollars and sentenced to 30 days in jail, though imprisonment was stayed until the afternoon session.
Rev. J. A. Milburn argues for restricting football to reduce danger but opposes legislation. He favors colleges self imposing limits, promotes a kicking game akin to early rugby, and urges open play with limited tackling to curb mass formations. Charles Ludwig a N Meridian Street pawnbroker bound over to the grand jury after a police court hearing on receiving stolen goods. Bond set at 2000 dollars. Fred Williams a 16 year old boy who stole a wheel told his story in court and drew sympathy. Detectives later found 24 wheels in Ludwig's house and shop, 12 identified as stolen.
Catherine Chamberlain faced petit larceny charges after taking two rabbits from a McCarty street grocery. She told Judge Cox her family’s poverty and a recent home fire left them foodless and jobless. The judge released her on a suspended judgment.
William Perry was found guilty of murder in the second degree for the July 1 stabbing death of Greatus Mclean. The jury returned after about two hours, sentencing Perry to life imprisonment. Perry expressed distress over his wife and four children as he faced the verdict and tearful family scenes followed at the jail.
An Indianapolis meeting of the executive committee condemned John P. Hawkins ex mayor of Chicago for his outsize role in the party’s campaign. He allegedly courted power, unsettled Bynum, and fueled disputes with Chicago leaders while New York aided the western bloc. The committee plans further action to expel him amid claims of sensational campaign tales and internal strife.
Controller Johnson expects county commissioners to reply early next week about cutting down the courthouse yard. Johnson believes the yard’s removal will greatly improve the courthouse basement for city offices and end further office searches.

Albert Raab as assignee filed an appraisement showing Mechanics Mutual and Mechanics Mutual Mo 1 Building and Loan assets at 51554.83 and 332 BIT.87 respectively. Geo G Pyle and wife returned from Terre Haute and found burglars at work after a quick check of his business at Pennsylvania and Georgia streets. Detectives expressed great disgust.
Joseph Jenkins Bingham died at 8 20 Saturday morning at his home 546 N Meridian Street after six months of feebleness. Born 1815 in New York, he moved to Indiana and led the Daily and Weekly Indiana State Sentinel editing team, later owning the paper 1857 1872. He served as Democratic state central committee chairman 1863 64 and was active in public life, surviving by a large family including six children from his third marriage. He died peacefully and will be buried at Crown Hill likely Monday.

Death came from severed veins entering the heart. witness testimony began Saturday afternoon.
