Tragedy at Irvington as Mrs Baldwin Poisoned Family

Mrs Clara L Baldwin used strychnine and a public safety item to kill herself after poisoning her husband Enos and children James 17 and Mary 15. The family were recovering in Irvington as doctors treated them through the night and the scene revealed a planned deed tied to illness and a belief in protecting souls.

Coroner and Baldwin Visit Scene of Postum Cereal Case

Coroner Nash collected samples of postum cereal from a coffee pot on the table and from a cup on Mrs. Bald win s bureau. Baldwin, a special agent for Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company of Newark, N J, and local office staff called at the house Friday morning. Attaches had seldom met Mrs Baldwin, but all say Baldwin was devoted to her.

Her erratic acts and later religious turn unsettled her parents though they remained proud of her upbringing.

Blaker Candidate for School Commissioner Petition Circulated

A petition seeks to nominate Louis J. Blaker for school commissioner. Blaker is agent for White Line Nickel Plate and West Shore lines. His wife Elizabeth is superintendent of Indiana kindergarten and primary normal-training school. Geeting petition has 230 signatures and will be filed with the mayor. General MacArthur Enter Angeles in Fire Fight

Manila report says Col Bell led a scouting party into Angeles amid gunfire and fires. MacArthur followed with Seventeenth Infantry moving with a field gun while insurgents reportedly suffered heavy losses and many slept through the assault. An armored train supported the attack but could not advance beyond two miles north of San Fernando.

In a war department cable from Otis dated Aug 1, Manila Aug 11, Macarthur has taken possession of Sante Rita and reconnoitered Porac Angeles and surrounding areas. Insurgents driven out with one casualty. Roads improving yet movement remains difficult but deemed essential to open this region and relieve inhabitants in Bataan.

George P. Marott of Indianapolis disputes the Dawson dispatch about the steamer Indianapolis with anxiety over safety. George D Sisson 63 president of the George D Sisson redwood lumber and shingle company died at his home at 2183 Park Ave Indianapolis at 445 p m Thursday after a brief apoplexy. He had worked hard at his Lemcke building office Wednesday and grew ill Thursday morning. A blood vessel burst in his brain from overwork.
